ABOUT THE 2012 BMW 750I XDRIVE
The 2012 BMW 750i xDrive is the all-wheel-drive, standard-wheelbase version of the F01 7 Series in its final year before the mid-life update. It retains the original N63 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 with 400 hp and 450 lb-ft, coupled to a six-speed automatic, and sends power to all four wheels through xDrive.
End of the pre-facelift era
2012 was the last year of the early F01. For 2013 the facelift brought an upgraded 445 hp version of the V8, the eight-speed automatic across the range and revised styling and equipment. A 2012 car therefore represents the original specification, already used since 2009 for the rear-drive car and since 2010 with xDrive.
On the road
The 750i xDrive delivers rapid, quiet progress with strong mid-range urge from the turbo V8, and its all-wheel drive makes it a confident winter car. Rated fuel economy was 14 mpg city and 20 mpg highway, or about 16.8 and 11.8 L/100km. The interior offers ample space, high-quality materials and a long list of comfort and driver-assistance options for its time.
Buying one today
Early N63 V8s are widely reported to use oil and to suffer from valve stem seal wear, timing-chain stretch, injector faults and heat-related damage around the turbochargers.
