Data Sources & Editorial Policy
Where our specifications come from, how we check them and how we correct mistakes.
This page explains where the information on CarDetails.org comes from, how we check it and how we handle corrections.
Where our specifications come from
Our database is compiled from publicly available vehicle information, such as figures published by manufacturers for a given market and model year. We standardise those figures into one consistent format — for example horsepower and kilowatts, newton-metres and pound-feet, millimetres and kilograms — so that different cars can be compared fairly.
Specifications always relate to a particular version of a car. When figures differ between markets or trims, a page describes the version named in its title. Fuel-economy and electric-range figures depend on the official test cycle used (EPA, WLTP or NEDC), and results from different cycles should not be compared directly.
Known limitations
- Some entries, particularly for older vehicles, may be incomplete. Where we do not have a reliable figure we leave the field blank rather than guess.
- Categories such as body type or vehicle class can be defined differently by different manufacturers.
- We do not list prices, because they vary too much between countries to be useful worldwide.
- Vehicle images are illustrative and may not show the exact version described.
How we review and correct information
We review entries on an ongoing basis, starting with the most-visited cars. When we find or are told about an error, we check it against an alternative source and update the page. Reader reports are welcome and are the fastest way to get a figure fixed — please send the page link and your source through the contact page.
Our articles
Guides and explainers are written to help readers understand cars and their specifications. We aim to explain concepts accurately and in plain English, check facts and calculations before publishing, and update articles when information changes. Each article shows its publication date and, when relevant, the date it was last updated.
Independence and advertising
CarDetails.org is independent. We are not paid by manufacturers or dealers for coverage, and we do not accept payment to change specifications or opinions. The site is funded by advertising, including Google AdSense; ads are placed automatically by the ad network and are kept visually separate from our content.
Use of AI tools
We may use software tools, including AI-assisted tools, to help organise data, enhance images and draft or check text. Published content is reviewed before it goes live, and we remain responsible for everything on the site.
