ABOUT THE 2017 BMW 750I XDRIVE
The 2017 BMW 750i xDrive is the V8, all-wheel-drive version of the sixth-generation 7 Series (G12). In the US it is sold only in long-wheelbase form. Its 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 produces 445 hp and 480 lb-ft, and it uses an eight-speed automatic with xDrive all-wheel drive.
Second year of the G12
The G12 arrived for the 2016 model year with a body structure that combines carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic with steel and aluminium, cutting weight compared with the F01. For 2017 the range expanded considerably: the 740e xDrive plug-in hybrid and the V12 M760i xDrive joined the 740i and 750i, leaving the 750i xDrive as the mainstream V8 choice in the middle of the line-up.
Technology and comfort
The G12 introduced features such as gesture control for iDrive, a key with a touchscreen display and an Executive Lounge rear-seat package with a massaging, reclining seat. Air suspension is standard, and Executive Drive Pro added active anti-roll control and camera-based road scanning.
Buying one today
This later version of the twin-turbo V8 is regarded as more robust than the early N63, but oil consumption and leaks, coolant leaks and ignition coil failures are still reported. The car’s many electronic systems and air suspension can be costly to repair, so look for a complete service history.
Rivals
Competitors included the Mercedes-Benz S550 4Matic, Audi A8 L and Lexus LS 460 AWD.
