ABOUT THE 2020 BMW 750I XDRIVE
The 2020 BMW 750i xDrive is the V8-powered version of the sixth-generation 7 Series (G12) in its facelifted form, sold in the US as a long-wheelbase luxury saloon. For 2020 its 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 was upgraded to 523 hp and 553 lb-ft, driving all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic.
A major update for 2020
The 2020 model year brought the G12’s mid-life facelift. The most obvious change was a much larger kidney grille and a taller front end, with slimmer headlights and new tail lights at the rear. Inside, BMW added its Live Cockpit Professional digital instrument display and updated infotainment, while extra sound insulation further improved refinement. Under the bonnet, the reworked V8 gained a substantial increase in power and torque over the pre-facelift 750i.
What it is like
The 750i xDrive combines limousine comfort with very strong performance. Air suspension is standard, and the long wheelbase provides generous rear legroom, with options such as executive lounge seating and rear-seat entertainment. All-wheel drive helps put the V8’s torque down in all conditions.
Buying one today
Big luxury saloons depreciate heavily and can be expensive to maintain. The V8 belongs to BMW’s N63 family, which has a history of oil consumption and turbo-area heat issues on earlier versions, so a full service history matters. Air suspension components and the many electronic systems should be checked by a specialist.
Rivals
Rivals in 2020 included the Mercedes-Benz S560 4MATIC, Audi A8 L, Lexus LS 500, Porsche Panamera and Genesis G90.
