The 2020 BMW X5 M is an SUV. It features 4.4L 8-cyl Turbo producing 282 HP (210 kW) and an 8-Speed Automatic transmission. All-Wheel Drive (AWD) with 0–60 mph in 5.3s, top speed of 155 mph.
ABOUT THE 2020 BMW X5 M
The 2020 BMW X5 M is the launch year of the third-generation X5 M (F95), based on the fourth-generation X5 and built in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Its 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 produces 600 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm), sent to all four wheels through M xDrive and an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic, the only transmission offered.
New for 2020
After a one-year gap with no X5 M in the 2019 model year, the F95 arrived for 2020 alongside a Competition version rated at 617 hp. BMW quoted 0–60 mph in 3.8 seconds for the standard car, and top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph, or 177 mph with the optional M Driver’s Package. An Active M Differential at the rear and adjustable driving settings, accessed via the M1 and M2 buttons on the steering wheel, were part of the package.
What it is like
The X5 M is extremely fast for a large SUV, with immense mid-range thrust and strong grip from its rear-biased all-wheel-drive system. The cabin offers the latest BMW digital instruments and infotainment, plus M sports seats, while rear-seat and boot space match the regular X5. The firm suspension and large wheels mean the ride is busier than a standard model’s.
Running costs
Fuel economy is low, at around 13 mpg in the city (about 18 L/100km), and the wide performance tyres and large brakes are expensive consumables. A full BMW service history is valuable on this complex vehicle.
Rivals
Rivals included the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, Range Rover Sport SVR and Audi RS Q8, with the new Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S following soon after.
