ABOUT THE 2019 BMW X3 XDRIVE30I
The 2019 BMW X3 xDrive30i is the mainstream all-wheel-drive version of the third-generation X3 (G01), which went on sale in the US for the 2018 model year. It uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder producing 248 hp and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm), with an eight-speed automatic and xDrive all-wheel drive. BMW quoted 0–60 mph in 6.0 seconds.
The 2019 range
For 2019 the X3 line-up in the US gained a rear-wheel-drive sDrive30i alongside the xDrive30i and the six-cylinder M40i, giving buyers a lower-cost entry point. The xDrive30i remained the volume model, and North American X3s were built at BMW’s plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
What it is like
The G01 is longer and roomier than the F25 it replaced, with a more upmarket cabin and the latest iDrive system of the time. The four-cylinder is smooth and returns about 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway (around 10.7 and 8.1 L/100km). Rear-seat space suits adults, and the boot is one of the larger in the class, with 40:20:40 split-folding seats.
Buying one today
The B46/B48-family four-cylinder is considered durable, but commonly reported items include oil leaks from the valve-cover and oil-filter-housing gaskets, coolant leaks and electric water-pump failures as mileage builds. Check the infotainment, cameras and driver-assistance sensors, which can be expensive to replace.
Rivals
The X3 xDrive30i competed with the Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC 300, Volvo XC60 and Lexus NX.
