ABOUT THE 2023 BMW X3 XDRIVE30I
The 2023 BMW X3 xDrive30i is the core four-cylinder version of the third-generation X3 (G01), a five-seat compact luxury SUV. It uses BMW’s B46 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, rated at 248 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, with an eight-speed automatic transmission and xDrive all-wheel drive.
Where 2023 fits
The G01 X3 arrived for the 2018 model year and received its mid-life update for 2022, with a larger kidney grille, slimmer headlights, revised bumpers and a larger central display. The 2023 model year was therefore the second year of the facelifted car, with only minor changes. The fourth-generation X3 replaced it for the 2025 model year. All US-market X3s of this generation are built at BMW’s Spartanburg plant in South Carolina.
What it is like
The xDrive30i sits below the six-cylinder M40i and the full X3 M in the range, and it is the version most buyers choose. The turbocharged four-cylinder delivers strong mid-range torque, and the X3 is well regarded for its car-like handling. The cabin offers comfortable space for four adults, a split-folding rear seat and a practical, square-shaped boot.
Buying one today
The B46 has a better reliability record than the N20 it replaced. Commonly reported issues include oil leaks from the oil filter housing gasket and valve cover, and coolant leaks from plastic components on higher-mileage examples. Make sure all driver assistance features and the infotainment system work as intended.
Rivals
Rivals included the Audi Q5, the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC, the Volvo XC60, the Genesis GV70 and the Lexus NX.
