ABOUT THE 2015 BMW M5
The 2015 BMW M5 is the high-performance version of the sixth-generation 5 Series saloon, coded F10. It uses the S63 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 with 560 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels. This entry covers the version with the seven-speed M dual-clutch transmission; US buyers could also order a six-speed manual, a choice not offered in most other markets.
Late in the F10’s life
By 2015 the F10 M5 had been on sale for several years and had already received its facelift with revised lights. A Competition Package, raising output to 575 hp and adding firmer suspension and quicker steering, was available. The 2016 model year would be the last for this generation before the all-wheel-drive F90 arrived.
What it is like
The turbocharged V8 brought a big jump in torque over the previous V10 car, and the M5 combines huge straight-line pace with a roomy cabin and a usable boot. Adjustable modes for the engine, steering, suspension and gearbox let it switch between relaxed cruising and serious performance.

Commonly discussed S63 concerns include rod-bearing wear, oil consumption, valve stem seals and the cost of maintaining a hot-vee twin-turbo layout. Brakes, tyres and fluid changes are expensive, so service records are essential.
Rivals
Competitors included the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S, Audi RS 7 and Porsche Panamera GTS.
