The last 335i
For 2016 BMW refreshed the F30 and replaced the 335i with the 340i, which used the new B58 engine. That makes the 2015 car the last 3 Series saloon with the 335i badge and the N55 engine, closing a run that started with the E90 generation. By this stage the range included the 320i, 328i, 328d diesel and ActiveHybrid 3, while the coupe versions had moved to the 4 Series name.
Everyday appeal
The 335i xDrive combines strong performance with all-weather traction and a practical body. The cabin has room for four adults, the boot is a reasonable size and split-folding rear seats were commonly fitted. Ride and handling depend heavily on specification: M Sport cars have stiffer suspension and larger wheels, while adaptive dampers soften the ride in Comfort mode.
Buying one today
This is a mature engine by 2015, but oil leaks from the oil filter housing and valve cover, water pump failure and charge pipe cracks still occur. Check the xDrive transfer case and listen for drivetrain clunks at low speed.
