ABOUT THE 2010 BMW 335I XDRIVE
The 2010 BMW 335i xDrive is the turbocharged all-wheel-drive saloon from the fifth-generation 3 Series (E90). Its twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre N54 inline-six produces 300 hp and 300 lb-ft (400 Nm), and BMW’s xDrive system powers all four wheels. This entry covers the version with the six-speed automatic; a six-speed manual was also offered.
The last N54 year
The E90 saloon was facelifted for 2009, with revised lights, bumpers and a newer iDrive system, and 2009 also brought the switch from the old “xi” badge to “xDrive”. 2010 was the final model year for the twin-turbo N54 engine in the 335i saloon; for 2011 it was replaced by the single twin-scroll turbo N55. The N54 has a strong following because it responds well to tuning.
What it is like
The 335i xDrive combines strong mid-range performance with all-weather traction and the 3 Series’ balanced handling. Rear legroom on the 2,760 mm wheelbase is adequate for adults, and the boot is a reasonable size for the class.

The N54 has several well-known weak points: high-pressure fuel pump failures, leaking or failing piezo injectors, wastegate rattle and turbocharger wear, and failure of the electric water pump. Oil leaks from the valve cover and oil-filter housing are also common. Check for a service history that shows these items have been addressed.
Rivals
Rivals included the Audi S4, Infiniti G37x and Mercedes-Benz C300 4MATIC, as well as the Lexus IS 250 AWD at a lower performance level.
