ABOUT THE 2020 BMW X7 XDRIVE40I
The 2020 BMW X7 xDrive40i is the six-cylinder version of the G07 X7, a full-size three-row luxury SUV built in Spartanburg, South Carolina. It uses BMW’s B58 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six rated at 335 hp and 330 lb-ft (450 Nm), with an eight-speed automatic and xDrive all-wheel drive. BMW quoted 0–60 mph in 5.8 seconds.
Year two of the X7
The X7 arrived for the 2019 model year as BMW’s first full-size SUV, positioned above the X5. For 2020 the xDrive40i continued as the entry model while the V8 M50i replaced the xDrive50i above it. The 40i is the version most buyers chose, combining adequate performance with lower running costs than the V8.
Practicality
The X7 seats seven as standard, with an optional six-seat layout. Unlike many three-row SUVs, its third row is usable by adults on shorter trips, and electrically folding seats make it easy to reconfigure. Air suspension is standard and can lower the vehicle for easier loading. Notable options included the Sky Lounge panoramic roof and glass interior controls.
Buying one today
The B58 engine is regarded as dependable, though coolant leaks and oil filter housing gasket seepage are commonly reported on this engine family. Check the air suspension carefully, test the many electronic features and make sure software updates and recalls are complete.
Rivals
It competed with the Mercedes-Benz GLS 450, Audi Q7, Volvo XC90, Lincoln Aviator and Cadillac XT6.
