The 2022 BMW 430i xDrive Coupe is the all-wheel-drive four-cylinder version of the second-generation 4 Series Coupe (G22), in its second model year. It uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre B46 four-cylinder producing 255 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm), with an eight-speed automatic and xDrive all-wheel drive.
Where it sits
The G22 arrived for 2021 and is closely related to the G20 3 Series, but with a lower roof, wider rear track and the large vertical kidney grille that divided opinion. For 2022 the 4 Series family expanded with the new Gran Coupe and the all-electric i4, while the coupe continued with the 430i, the six-cylinder M440i and the M4 at the top.
What it is like
The G22 has a 2,851 mm wheelbase and a body stiffer than the F32 it replaced. The four-cylinder offers good everyday performance and economy, and xDrive provides traction in poor weather. The cabin borrows the 3 Series’ layout, with four seats; the rear seats are best for shorter adults or children, and the boot is reasonably practical for a coupe, with folding rear backrests.
