ABOUT THE 2021 BMW 430I XDRIVE COUPE
The 2021 BMW 430i xDrive Coupe is the launch-year, all-wheel-drive version of the second-generation 4 Series Coupe (G22), built in Dingolfing, Germany. It uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder rated at 255 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm), with an eight-speed automatic and xDrive all-wheel drive.
An all-new 4 Series
The G22 replaced the F32 for the 2021 model year. It is based on the G20 3 Series but has a lower roofline, a wider rear track and a longer wheelbase of 2,851 mm than its predecessor. The most talked-about change was the large vertical kidney grille, which divided opinion. Above the 430i sat the six-cylinder M440i, which used a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.
What it is like
The four-cylinder engine is more powerful than in the outgoing 430i, and the G22’s stiffer body and lower centre of gravity give it sharper handling than the F32. xDrive improves traction in poor weather. The cabin uses BMW’s latest digital instrument display and infotainment, and the coupe has four seats with a reasonable boot for its class.
Buying one today
As a first-year model, a 2021 car may have received several software updates and recall fixes, so check the dealer history. The B46 engine is generally reliable, though coolant leaks are reported on some examples of this engine family. Look for kerb damage to the wheels and consistent tyre wear.
