ABOUT THE 2022 AUDI S3
The 2022 Audi S3 is the first model year of the fourth-generation A3-based S3 (8Y) in the US. It is a compact four-door saloon with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder rated at 306 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm), a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch gearbox and quattro all-wheel drive.
New generation
The 2022 S3 replaced the 8V-based car with a more aggressive design, a wider stance and a heavily revised interior. Inside, a 10.1-inch central touchscreen and the Audi virtual cockpit digital instrument display are standard, and the older pop-up screen and rotary controller have gone. The engine is a development of the EA888 used before but with more power and torque than the 292 hp and 280 lb-ft of the outgoing model. The RS 3, with its five-cylinder engine, returned alongside it for the same model year.
What it is like
The S3 is a quick and secure compact saloon with lots of grip, and the dual-clutch gearbox shifts quickly. It is less extreme than the RS 3, so it is easier to live with daily. Rear-seat space is limited for taller adults, but the boot is usable for a car of this size.
Buying one today
As a recent model, the S3 has fewer reported long-term problems, but buyers should confirm that any recall or software campaigns have been completed and check the condition of the infotainment system. The dual-clutch gearbox needs fluid services at the specified intervals, and performance tuning is common on these cars.
