ABOUT THE 2023 TOYOTA CAMRY TRD
The 2023 Toyota Camry TRD is the sportiest version of the eighth-generation Camry, tuned by Toyota Racing Development. It uses the Camry’s 3.5-litre V6, producing 301 hp and 267 lb-ft, with an eight-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. It is built in Georgetown, Kentucky.
What TRD adds
Introduced for 2020, the TRD is more than a styling package. It has stiffer springs and anti-roll bars, a lower ride height, stronger body bracing, larger front brakes and a louder cat-back exhaust, along with a body kit, rear wing, red accents and lightweight black wheels. The result is a noticeably sharper and more engaging Camry, while keeping its spacious cabin and practicality.
Trade-offs
The firmer suspension makes the ride busier on rough roads, and its distinctive styling will not suit every taste. It drives the front wheels only, so hard acceleration can cause some wheelspin. Fuel economy is reasonable for a 300 hp saloon.
Buying one
The V6 is a proven engine with a good reliability record. Check that the car has not been abused or modified, and look for kerb damage to the low front bodywork.
Rivals
Performance-oriented mid-size rivals include the Kia K5 GT and Nissan Maxima.
