ABOUT THE 2024 BMW X6 M COMPETITION
The 2024 BMW X6 M Competition is the M division’s version of the third-generation X6 (G06), coded F96, in the facelifted form that arrived for the 2024 model year. It is a five-seat coupé-style SUV powered by the S68 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8, now supported by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, producing 617 hp and 553 lb-ft. Power reaches all four wheels via M xDrive and an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic.
What changed for 2024
The 2024 update was the most significant change since this generation’s launch. The previous S63 V8 was replaced by the S68 with mild-hybrid assistance, and the cabin gained BMW’s Curved Display, combining the instrument panel and central touchscreen behind one glass panel, running iDrive 8.5. The exterior received new lights and bumpers. In the US the X6 M is sold only in Competition form, and like every X6 it is built at BMW’s Spartanburg plant in South Carolina.
Performance and practicality
BMW quotes a 0–60 mph time of 3.7 seconds, remarkable for a vehicle of this size and weight. The adaptive suspension, active roll stabilisation and staggered wheel sizes keep it composed, though the ride is firm. The fastback roof reduces rear headroom and boot capacity compared with the related X5 M, which is the better choice for buyers who carry passengers or bulky loads regularly.
Rivals
The X6 M Competition competed with the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupé, Porsche Cayenne Coupé in its Turbo versions, Audi RS Q8 and Lamborghini Urus.
