ABOUT THE 2023 BMW X6 M COMPETITION
The 2023 BMW X6 M Competition is the most powerful version of the third-generation X6 (F96), BMW’s coupe-styled large SUV. It is powered by the S63 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 617 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm), with M xDrive all-wheel drive and an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic. BMW quotes 0–60 mph in 3.7 seconds, and like all X6 models it is built in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Lifecycle
The F96 X6 M arrived for 2020 alongside the X5 M. 2023 was the final year of the original version; the facelifted model for 2024 added a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, new lighting and the curved display. A 2023 car therefore has the earlier interior, with more physical buttons.
Competition specification
Over the standard X6 M, the Competition adds more power, firmer chassis tuning, larger wheels and gloss-black exterior trim. The result is a heavy SUV with very strong acceleration and impressive body control, though the ride is firm. The sloping roofline reduces rear headroom and boot space compared with the X5 M, but it still seats five.
What to check
The S63 V8 needs careful maintenance; commonly reported issues include oil consumption and heat-related wear in the area between the cylinder banks. Running costs are high for tyres, brakes and servicing. Use a specialist inspection before buying.
Rivals
Rivals included the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe and the Lamborghini Urus.
