ABOUT THE 2023 BMW X5 M50I
The 2023 BMW X5 M50i is the V8 performance version of the fourth-generation X5 (G05), and 2023 was the last model year for both the M50i badge and the pre-facelift G05. Its twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 produces 523 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm), with xDrive all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic. BMW quoted 0–60 mph in 4.1 seconds.
End of an era for the M50i
The X5 M50i arrived for the 2020 model year, replacing the xDrive50i as the V8 model below the X5 M. For 2024 the X5 was facelifted and the V8 model was renamed M60i and given 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance, so the 2023 car is the final version of this specification. All X5s are built in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
What it offers
Standard equipment includes adaptive M suspension and M Sport brakes. It combines the X5’s spacious five-seat cabin and large split tailgate with performance close to a dedicated sports saloon. The wheelbase measures 2,975 mm.
Buying one today
Commonly reported concerns with the N63 V8 include oil consumption and oil and coolant leaks as mileage rises, and its turbochargers sit inside the vee, making some work expensive. Brakes, tyres and the many electronic systems also add to running costs, so a full BMW service history and warranty cover are worth having.
Rivals
Rivals included the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53, the Porsche Cayenne S and GTS, the Audi SQ7 and the Range Rover Sport.
