ABOUT THE 2022 BMW X5 M50I
The 2022 BMW X5 M50i is the V8-powered performance version of the fourth-generation X5 (G05), sitting below the full X5 M. It uses a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing 523 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm), with xDrive all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic.
Mid-cycle for the G05
The G05 X5 launched for 2019 and the M50i joined for 2020, as the top non-M model in North America. The 2022 car sits in the middle of the generation, before the 2024 facelift renamed this model the X5 M60i. Like every X5, it was built in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Performance and equipment
BMW quoted 0–60 mph in 4.3 seconds. Standard features included adaptive M suspension, an M Sport differential, and larger M Sport brakes. Inside it shares the X5’s spacious five-seat layout and large boot.
Buying one today
This later version of the twin-turbo V8 is better regarded than the troubled early N63 engines, but it still runs hot and benefits from timely oil changes. A heavy, powerful SUV wears through tyres and brakes quickly, so budget for both, and check the many electronic driver-assistance systems.
Rivals
Rivals included the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53, Porsche Cayenne GTS and Audi SQ7.
