ABOUT THE 2022 BMW X3 M40I
The 2022 BMW X3 M40i is the M Performance version of the G01 X3 in the first year of its mid-life facelift. Its B58 turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six is rated at 382 hp and 365 lb-ft (500 Nm), up from 355 hp before the update, with an eight-speed automatic and xDrive all-wheel drive.
What changed for 2022
The facelift brought a larger kidney grille, slimmer LED headlights, three-dimensional tail lights and new bumpers. Inside, a larger central touchscreen and revised trim arrived, and the M40i received its power increase. The full X3 M Competition continued above it as the range-topper.
Practicality
US-market X3s are built in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The M40i keeps the regular X3’s comfortable five-seat cabin and large boot with 40:20:40 split-folding rear seats, so it works as an everyday family SUV despite its pace.
