ABOUT THE 2021 BMW M240I COUPE
The 2021 BMW M240i Coupe is the six-cylinder M Performance version of the first-generation 2 Series Coupe (F22), in its final model year. Its B58 turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six produces 335 hp and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm), driving the rear wheels. This entry covers the version with the eight-speed automatic; a six-speed manual was offered on rear-drive cars for much of the model’s life, and xDrive all-wheel drive was also available.
The last of the F22
The 2 Series Coupe launched for 2014 as the successor to the 1 Series Coupe, and the M240i replaced the M235i for 2017, when the B58 engine arrived. 2021 was the last model year before the G42 2 Series Coupe arrived for 2022, so this is the final version of a compact rear-drive coupe often compared with classic small BMWs.
What it is like
The M240i combines a short wheelbase with a strong, smooth six-cylinder, and it was widely praised for its blend of pace and everyday usability. The coupe seats four, though rear space is tight for adults, and the boot is a reasonable size for a car of this length. Adaptive M suspension was available as an option for buyers who wanted a more flexible ride.

The B58 is regarded as one of BMW’s more robust modern engines, but commonly reported items include coolant leaks from the expansion tank and plastic pipes and oil-filter-housing gasket leaks. Many cars have been modified, so look for evidence of engine tuning or track use.
Rivals
Competitors included the Audi TTS, Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 and Toyota GR Supra 3.0, which shares the B58 engine.
