ABOUT THE 2019 BMW 530I XDRIVE
The 2019 BMW 530i xDrive is the all-wheel-drive, four-cylinder version of the G30 5 Series saloon. Its 2.0-litre B46 turbocharged engine makes 248 hp and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft), and power goes through an eight-speed automatic, the only gearbox offered on the US 530i, to BMW’s rear-biased xDrive system.
Mid-cycle 5 Series
The G30 generation went on sale for the 2017 model year, and the 2019 car sits in the middle of its run, before the 2021 facelift. Changes in these years were mainly to equipment and packages, not mechanical parts. It pairs all-wheel-drive traction for winter weather with the lower running costs of the four-cylinder engine.
What it is like
Compared with the previous F10 car, the G30 is lighter, quieter and more technology-focused. It was offered with semi-autonomous Driving Assistant Plus, gesture control and a 10.25-inch iDrive display. The wheelbase is 2,975 mm (117.1 in), giving generous rear legroom. The four-cylinder engine is less refined than the six in the 540i but has plenty of mid-range torque for everyday driving.
Buying one today
The B46 is generally regarded as durable. Commonly reported problems include coolant and oil leaks as the miles rise, worn front control-arm bushes, and occasional electronic or infotainment faults. On run-flat cars, check the tyre condition.
