The 2018 BMW X6 sDrive35i is the rear-wheel-drive entry point to the second-generation X6 (F16), BMW’s coupe-styled large SUV. It shares the X5’s turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six (N55), rated at 300 hp and 300 lb-ft (400 Nm), and uses an eight-speed automatic. Unlike most X6 models, it drives only the rear wheels.
Where it sits
The F16 arrived for the 2015 model year and by 2018 was in the later part of its life, with the G06 replacement due for 2020. The sDrive35i was aimed at buyers in warmer regions who wanted the X6’s look without the weight and cost of all-wheel drive; the xDrive35i, the V8 xDrive50i and the X6 M sat above it.
Practicality
The sloping roof costs rear headroom and luggage space compared with the X5 on which it is based, and the X6 seats five rather than offering a third row. In return it has a distinctive profile and a slightly sportier driving position. All F16 X6s were built in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Large-diameter wheels and run-flat tyres make tyre replacement a significant running cost, and suspension bushes should be checked on higher-mileage examples.
