ABOUT THE 2018 BMW 740I XDRIVE
The 2018 BMW 740i xDrive is the six-cylinder, all-wheel-drive version of the sixth-generation 7 Series (G12), sold in the US only in long-wheelbase form. It uses the B58 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six with 320 hp and 330 lb-ft (450 Nm), paired with an eight-speed automatic. It was built in Dingolfing, Germany.
Mid-cycle 7 Series
The G12 launched for the 2016 model year, initially as the rear-drive 740i and the V8 750i xDrive. An xDrive option for the 740i followed, making it a popular choice in colder states. In 2018 the car sat in the middle of its life cycle, before the 2020 facelift that brought a much larger grille. The range also included the 740e plug-in hybrid and the V12 M760i.
Technology and comfort
The G12 introduced BMW’s Carbon Core body structure, which combines carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic with steel and aluminium to save weight. Air suspension is standard, and the car was among the first to offer gesture control and the Display Key. Rear-seat passengers have generous space on the 3,210 mm wheelbase, and an Executive Lounge seating package was available.
Buying one today
