ABOUT THE 2020 BMW 740I XDRIVE
The 2020 BMW 740i xDrive is the six-cylinder version of the sixth-generation 7 Series (G11/G12), here in its facelifted form. In North America it uses the long-wheelbase body and the B58 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six, producing 335 hp and 330 lb-ft (about 450 Nm), with xDrive all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic.
The 2020 facelift
The G11/G12 7 Series launched for 2016, and 2020 brought its mid-life update. The most visible change was a much larger kidney grille, along with slimmer headlights, new tail lights linked by a light strip and updated infotainment. The 740i also gained power over the earlier 320 hp version. In the US, every 7 Series of this generation used the long wheelbase (3,210 mm), even though the “Li” naming was dropped.
Comfort and technology
The 7 Series uses a carbon-reinforced body structure, standard air suspension and a rear seat with generous legroom. Options included Executive Lounge rear seating, gesture control and an extensive suite of driver-assistance systems. The six-cylinder 740i is the most efficient petrol model in the range while still offering quick, smooth performance.
Buying one today
The B58 engine is generally considered robust. More likely costs come from the air suspension, the many electronic systems and large wheels and tyres, so check for warning lights and a documented service history.
