2016 BMW 750i
The 2016 BMW 750i is a sedan. It has a 4.4-litre turbocharged eight-cylinder engine producing 445 hp (332 kW), with an 8-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive. 0–60 mph takes 4.5 seconds and top speed is 155 mph (249 km/h).
ABOUT THE 2016 BMW 750I
The 2016 BMW 750i is the V8 model in the sixth-generation 7 Series (G12), launched for the 2016 model year. In the US the G12 was sold only with the long-wheelbase body, despite dropping the “L” from its name. It uses a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 rated at 445 hp and 480 lb-ft, and this entry is the rear-wheel-drive version with an eight-speed automatic; the 750i xDrive was also offered.
A new-generation flagship
The G12 introduced BMW’s “Carbon Core” construction, which combines carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic with high-strength steel and aluminium to cut weight compared with the previous 7 Series. It also debuted features including gesture control for the iDrive system, the touchscreen Display Key and laser headlights as an option. The V8 sat above the new six-cylinder 740i, with the M760i xDrive V12 to follow later.
Comfort and space
The 3,210 mm wheelbase gives rear passengers generous legroom, and options included the Executive Lounge seating package with a reclining rear seat and footrest, plus rear-seat entertainment tablets. Air suspension is standard, and the cabin is designed for long-distance comfort.
Buying one today
As a complex flagship from the launch year, the 750i can be expensive to keep. The V8 is a later evolution of BMW’s twin-turbo design and is better regarded than early versions, but oil leaks, coolant leaks and electronic faults are commonly reported, and air suspension components wear with age. Check that software updates and any open recall work have been completed.
Rivals
The 750i competed with the Mercedes-Benz S550, Audi A8 L 4.0T, Lexus LS 460 L and Jaguar XJL.
