ABOUT THE 2015 BMW M4 COUPE
The 2015 BMW M4 Coupe is the first model year of the M4 (F82), the two-door successor to the E92 M3 coupe after BMW moved its two-door cars into the new 4 Series family. It uses the twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre S55 inline-six with 425 hp and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) and is rear-wheel drive. This entry covers the version with the seven-speed M dual-clutch transmission; a six-speed manual was standard.
Why the name changed
Because the regular 3 Series coupe became the 4 Series for 2014, the M version followed and the M3 name stayed with the saloon. Mechanically, the M4 and M3 share their engine, suspension and much of their structure. The coupe adds a lower roofline, frameless door windows and a carbon-fibre roof panel, and seats four rather than five.
What it is like
Compared with the V8 car it replaced, the M4’s turbocharged six delivers far more mid-range pull and better fuel economy, and its strong low-rev torque calls for care on cold or wet roads. Adjustable dampers, steering and throttle modes let the driver soften the car for daily use.
