ABOUT THE 2010 BMW 750LI
The 2010 BMW 750Li is the long-wheelbase V8 model of the fifth-generation 7 Series (F02). Its 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged N63 V8 produces 400 hp and 450 lb-ft, with drive to the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic.
Second year of the F01/F02
The current-shape 7 Series arrived for the 2009 model year with more conventional styling than the E65 it replaced. For 2010 the range expanded: xDrive all-wheel-drive versions of the 750i and 750Li joined, and the V12-powered 760Li arrived at the top. The Li stretches the wheelbase by about 140 mm, all of which goes into rear legroom.
Comfort and technology
The 750Li is aimed at owners who may be driven as often as they drive. Available features included Integral Active Steering with rear-wheel steering, night vision with pedestrian detection, a head-up display, ventilated and massaging seats and a rear-seat entertainment system. The updated iDrive controller and screen were a major improvement over the E65’s.
Buying one today
The early N63 V8 is one of BMW’s most criticised engines. Widely reported problems include high oil consumption, valve stem seal wear, timing chain wear, fuel injector failures, and coolant and vacuum line deterioration from the heat of the turbos sitting inside the V. BMW issued a customer care package of updates for N63 cars, so check which have been completed.
Rivals
The 750Li competed with the Mercedes-Benz S550, Audi A8 L, Lexus LS 460 L and Porsche Panamera 4S.
