ABOUT THE 2019 AUDI SQ5
The 2019 Audi SQ5 is the performance version of the second-generation Q5 (FY), a five-door, five-seat compact SUV. It uses a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 rated at 354 hp and 369 lb-ft, with an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic and quattro all-wheel drive. Audi quoted 0–60 mph in 5.1 seconds.
A new kind of SQ5
The second-generation SQ5 arrived in the US for 2018, with 2019 its second model year. It dropped the previous SQ5’s supercharged V6 in favour of a single twin-scroll turbocharger mounted in the “hot vee” between the cylinder banks, adding torque across the rev range. It also uses a conventional torque-converter automatic rather than the dual-clutch gearbox of the regular Q5, and a permanent quattro system rather than the Q5’s rear-axle disconnect. Like the Q5, US cars were built in San José Chiapa, Mexico.
What it is like
The SQ5 sits lower than the Q5 on sports suspension, with adaptive damping and air suspension available, and has larger brakes, quad exhaust tips and sport seats. It keeps the Q5’s practical cabin and boot, so it works as an everyday family SUV with stronger performance. EPA ratings are around 19 mpg city and 24 mpg highway, roughly 12.4 and 9.8 L/100km.
