ABOUT THE 2019 AUDI RS 5 SPORTBACK
The 2019 Audi RS 5 Sportback is the five-door liftback version of Audi Sport’s second-generation RS 5, based on the B9 A5. It uses a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 rated at 444 hp and 442 lb-ft, with an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic and quattro all-wheel drive. Audi quoted 0–60 mph in 3.9 seconds.
New for 2019
2019 was the first model year of the RS 5 Sportback, and it was the first time the RS 5 had been offered in the US with this practical body. It joined the RS 5 Coupe, which had returned for 2018. The twin-turbo V6, with its turbochargers inside the vee of the engine, replaced the previous RS 5’s high-revving naturally aspirated V8, trading some sound for much more low-down torque.
Practicality and character
The Sportback looks like a four-door coupe but has a large tailgate, giving it a much more useful boot opening than a saloon. It seats five, with rear headroom limited by the sloping roof. Options included Dynamic Ride Control suspension and a sport differential on the rear axle, which helps the car turn more sharply out of corners.
