ABOUT THE 2025 BMW X5 M COMPETITION
The 2025 BMW X5 M Competition is the full M version of the fourth-generation X5 (G05), known as the F95, in its facelifted form. It uses a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, rated at 617 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm), with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic. BMW quotes 0–60 mph in 3.7 seconds.
Second year after the update
The X5 M’s facelift arrived for 2024, bringing the S68 V8 in place of the S63, mild-hybrid assistance, the Curved Display inside and revised lights and bumpers. The 2025 car continued this specification, and US models were sold only in Competition form.
Driving
The M xDrive system and an M Sport differential give the heavy SUV impressive agility, and the adaptive suspension offers a wide range between comfort and track-focused settings. Ride on the large wheels remains firm.
Practicality
Unlike the regular X5, the X5 M seats five only, with a generous boot. Like all X5s it is built in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Ownership
Running costs are high: big brakes, wide tyres and the V8’s servicing are expensive. As a relatively new engine, the S68 has less of a track record than older BMW V8s, so a warranty-backed example is worth considering.
Rivals
Rivals included the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S, Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid and Audi RS Q8.
