ABOUT THE 2025 BMW X4 M COMPETITION
The 2025 BMW X4 M Competition is the high-performance version of the second-generation X4 (G02), known internally as the F98. Its 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged S58 inline-six produces 503 hp and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm), driving all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic. BMW quotes 0–60 mph in 3.7 seconds.
Near the end of the line
The X4 M launched for 2020 and gained its facelift for 2022, which added slimmer headlights, revised bumpers and a larger central touchscreen; the US version was offered only as the Competition from then on. 2025 was one of the last years for the model, as BMW was reported to have no direct replacement planned once the new X3 arrived.
On the road
The S58 engine, shared with the M3 and M4, gives the compact SUV-coupe serious pace, and the M xDrive system is rear-biased. Ride quality is firm even in its softest setting, which suits drivers who prioritise handling over comfort.
Practicality
The sloping roof reduces rear headroom and boot space compared with the X3 M, but the X4 M still seats five. It is built in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Buying one today
Discussion among S58 owners has focused on the crankshaft hub on tuned cars, so a standard, unmodified example is the safer purchase. Check brake and tyre wear.
Rivals
It competed with the Porsche Macan and the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Coupe.
