The 2022 BMW M440i xDrive Coupe is the six-cylinder flagship of the G22 4 Series coupe line-up, below the separate M4. 2022 in the range
The 2022 model year was the second for the G22 coupe. The bigger news in the family was the arrival of the M440i xDrive Gran Coupe, which offers the same engine with a five-door liftback body. The two-door M440i carried over with its sharper roofline and wider rear track compared with the 3 Series it is based on.
What it is like
The M440i is tuned as a fast grand tourer rather than a hardcore sports car. The engine delivers strong, smooth pace across the rev range, and xDrive means it puts its power down well on wet roads. The mild-hybrid starter-generator smooths stop-start operation. Four seats and a decent boot make it usable for trips away.
Known issues
BMW’s B58 engine is widely considered durable. Commonly reported issues include coolant leaks from the expansion tank and pipes and oil filter housing gasket leaks. The 48-volt battery and its electronics are worth checking with a diagnostic scan on any used example.
