ABOUT THE 2022 BMW ALPINA B7 XDRIVE
The 2022 BMW Alpina B7 xDrive is Alpina’s high-performance luxury saloon based on the long-wheelbase G12 7 Series. Its hand-modified 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 produces 600 hp and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft). The engine drives all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic with Alpina’s own calibration. BMW quotes 0–60 mph in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h).
The final year of this B7
This B7 was updated alongside the 2020 7 Series facelift, gaining the larger grille, a revised interior and a higher quoted top speed. The 2022 model year was its last, as the G12 7 Series was replaced by the new G70 generation for 2023. It shows Alpina’s long-standing approach well, combining very high cruising speeds with a supple ride.
What it is like
Alpina retuned the air suspension, steering and gearbox for a softer, long-distance character rather than track pace, and fitted large multi-spoke wheels with specially developed tyres. Inside are Alpina-specific trim, Lavalina leather options and individual badging. The long wheelbase, at 3,210 mm (126.4 in), gives rear passengers limousine-like legroom.
Buying one today
Mechanically the B7 shares much with the 750i, so the same advice applies: air-suspension parts, coolant leaks and the large number of electronic features can lead to costly repairs. Tyres and brakes are expensive. Check for complete dealer service records.
Rivals
Alternatives included the Mercedes-Maybach S 580, Audi S8, Bentley Flying Spur V8 and Porsche Panamera Turbo S.
