The 2019 BMW 440i xDrive Gran Coupe is the six-cylinder version of the F36 4 Series Gran Coupe, a four-door model with a fastback roofline and a liftback tailgate. It uses BMW’s B58 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six, rated at 320 hp and 330 lb-ft (450 Nm), with xDrive all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic.
Top of the Gran Coupe range
The 440i sat above the four-cylinder 430i as the most powerful 4 Series Gran Coupe; there was no M version of this body. The B58 engine arrived in the 4 Series with the 2017 model year, replacing the older N55, and in 2019 the car carried the styling and interior changes of the 2018 facelift.
What it is like
The smooth inline-six gives the 440i strong mid-range pull and a refined character, and xDrive helps put that power down in poor weather. Buying one today
The B58 has a good reputation overall. Commonly reported issues include coolant leaks from the expansion tank and plastic coolant pipes, and oil filter housing gasket leaks on higher-mileage cars. As with other xDrive BMWs, check for driveline noises, and budget for run-flat tyres if the car still has them.
