The 2018 BMW X4 M40i is the performance flagship of the first-generation X4 (F26), a compact SUV with a sloping, coupe-like roofline. Its N55-based 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six was uprated by BMW M to 355 hp and 343 lb-ft (465 Nm), with xDrive all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic.
End of the first X4
The X4 arrived for the 2015 model year, built at BMW’s Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, and the M40i joined for 2016. The 2018 model year was the last for the F26; the second-generation X4 (G02) took over for 2019, when the M40i moved to the B58 engine. BMW quoted 0–60 mph in 4.7 seconds for the F26 M40i.
