The 2016 BMW 528i is the four-cylinder model of the sixth-generation 5 Series saloon (F10), in its final model year. An all-wheel-drive 528i xDrive was also available.
End of the F10
The F10 5 Series launched for 2011 and was facelifted for 2014. The 2016 model year was its last, as the G30 generation arrived for 2017 and the four-cylinder model was renamed 530i. A 2016 528i therefore has the full set of updates from the facelift, including revised lights and the updated iDrive system, along with standard automatic stop-start and selectable driving modes including ECO PRO.
Practicality and comfort
The F10 is roomy, with comfortable rear seats for adults and a large boot. The chassis is tuned more for comfort and refinement than the earlier E39 and E60 generations, which suits long-distance use. Known N20 issues include wear of the timing-chain guides, oil-filter-housing gasket leaks and electric water pump failure. A service history showing regular oil changes is valuable on this engine.
