ABOUT THE 2015 BMW 535I XDRIVE GRAN TURISMO
The 2015 BMW 535i xDrive Gran Turismo is a five-door hatchback from the facelifted F07 5 Series GT range, combining a high roofline with the long 3,070 mm wheelbase of the 7 Series. It is powered by the N55 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six with 300 hp and 300 lb-ft, using an eight-speed automatic and xDrive all-wheel drive.
Later F07 production
This is the second year of the updated GT, which received a longer tail, a larger boot and revised front styling for 2014. The F07 continued to be sold until the 6 Series Gran Turismo (G32) took over for 2018, so a 2015 car sits in the middle of the facelifted run. The V8 550i xDrive GT remained the more powerful alternative.
Practicality
The GT is the most spacious car in the 5 Series family. The rear seats are set higher than in the saloon, there is generous legroom, and the hatchback opening makes it more practical than a conventional boot. The two-part tailgate lets you open either a small boot lid or the full hatch. It is heavy, so performance is adequate rather than sporty.
Buying one today
The N55 is the more durable engine choice in the GT range, but oil filter housing and valve cover leaks and electric water pump failures are typical. Check the self-levelling rear air suspension for leaks, test all windows and the tailgate, and make sure the xDrive system runs quietly on tight turns.
Rivals
Buyers might also have looked at the Audi A7 3.0T quattro, Mercedes-Benz E350 4MATIC Wagon or Volvo XC70.
