ABOUT THE 2015 BMW 435I GRAN COUPE
The 2015 BMW 435i Gran Coupe is the four-door version of the first-generation 4 Series, coded F36. It has a sloping roofline and a large hatchback-style tailgate, with seats for five. Power comes from the N55 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six with 300 hp and 300 lb-ft, sent to the rear wheels. This entry covers the version with the eight-speed automatic; xDrive all-wheel drive was also available.
A new body for 2015
The Gran Coupe joined the 4 Series coupe and convertible for the 2015 model year, giving buyers a more practical alternative that kept the lower, coupe-like profile. It sits on the same wheelbase as the 3 Series sedan but has frameless door windows and a rear hatch, which makes the boot far easier to load than a conventional saloon. Split-folding rear seats add flexibility.
Where it sits
The 435i was the top Gran Coupe at launch, above the four-cylinder 428i. It shared its engine with the 335i, and Sport Line, Luxury Line and M Sport packages were offered. For 2017 the newer B58 engine replaced the N55 and the car was renamed 440i, so the 2015 car is from the launch year of the original line-up.
Buying one today
The N55’s commonly reported faults include valve cover and oil filter housing gasket leaks, electric water pump and thermostat failures and ignition-coil wear. Check that the tailgate struts and electronics work properly.
