The 2014 BMW Alpina B7 SWB is the standard-wheelbase version of Alpina’s high-performance 7 Series (F01). Its Alpina-tuned twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 produces 540 hp and 538 lb-ft (730 Nm), and power goes to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic. All-wheel drive was available as the B7 xDrive.
The second year of the updated B7
2014 carried over the changes introduced with the 2013 facelift: the higher output, the eight-speed gearbox with Switch-Tronic steering-wheel buttons and the revised 7 Series styling and equipment. The SWB is the shorter, lighter of the two body lengths and rides on a 3,070 mm wheelbase, giving a more compact footprint while keeping the same engine and luxury fittings.
What sets it apart
Alpina’s work goes beyond the engine. The B7 has its own suspension and steering calibration, unique forged wheels, discreet aerodynamic additions and an interior with Alpina instruments and trim. The result is a large saloon that pairs very high performance with a calm, comfortable ride, rather than the harder edge of a typical high-performance model.
