The 2011 BMW 335is Convertible is the high-performance version of the E93 3 Series Convertible. The 335is, introduced for 2011, uses a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline-six producing 320 hp and 332 lb-ft, with a temporary overboost function under hard acceleration. The E93 Convertible
Unlike earlier 3 Series convertibles, the E93 has a three-piece retractable hardtop that folds into the boot, so it is as quiet and secure as a coupe with the roof up. It seats four. Folding the roof greatly reduces boot space, and the mechanism adds weight compared with the coupe.
What the “is” adds
Compared with the 335i, the 335is gained more power, an extra oil cooler, an M Sport-style body kit, sports suspension and unique wheels, making it the fastest 3 Series convertible short of an M3.
Buying one
The twin-turbo engine has well-documented weak points: high-pressure fuel pump and injector failures, turbo wastegate rattle, and electric water pump failure. Check the roof operates smoothly through several cycles, and look for leaks around the seals. A thorough service history is essential.
