2022 Changan UNI-T 1.5T

The 2022 Changan UNI-T 1.5T is a compact crossover SUV from Chinese manufacturer Changan, sold in China and in a number of export markets rather than in North America. It uses Changan’s 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, which the manufacturer quotes at 132 kW (about 177 hp) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) for the Chinese market. Drive goes to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Where it sits

The UNI-T went on sale in China in 2020 as the first model in Changan’s upmarket “UNI” family, positioned above the long-running CS-series SUVs. By 2022 it was in its third year on the market and was being rolled out to more export regions, including the Middle East. Its design stands out with a front end that has no conventional grille, flush-fitting door handles and a sloping, coupe-like roofline.

Cabin and technology

Inside, the UNI-T focuses on screens and connectivity, with a wide digital panel spanning the instrument cluster and infotainment display, voice control and a range of driver-assistance features depending on trim. The 2,710 mm wheelbase gives reasonable rear legroom for a compact SUV, although the sloping roof reduces headroom for taller passengers.

Practicality and ownership

With five seats and a conventional hatchback tailgate, the UNI-T is aimed at families and younger buyers who want a stylish crossover. As with many recent Chinese models, dealer coverage, parts supply and resale values vary widely between countries, so it is worth checking local support before buying.
