ABOUT THE 2022 BMW M240I XDRIVE COUPE
The 2022 BMW M240i xDrive Coupe is the launch-year performance version of the second-generation 2 Series Coupe (G42). It uses the B58 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six producing 382 hp and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm), with xDrive all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic, which was the only gearbox offered.
An all-new 2 Series Coupe
The G42 arrived for 2022 to replace the F22, keeping rear-drive-based underpinnings (shared with the 4 Series) rather than the front-drive platform of the 2 Series Gran Coupe. It is longer and wider than before, with a longer wheelbase of 2,741 mm, and the M240i gained a large step in power over the previous 335 hp model. Unlike earlier 2 Series coupes, the G42 is built at BMW’s plant in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. At launch in North America the M240i was offered only with xDrive.
Performance and practicality
BMW quoted 0–60 mph in 4.1 seconds, helped by all-wheel-drive traction. The cabin uses BMW’s iDrive 7 system with a digital instrument cluster, and the rear seats and boot are suitable for occasional passengers and weekend luggage.
Buying one today
As a recent car, the main checks are service records, any outstanding software updates and tyre and brake wear. The B58 has a good reputation for durability.
