ABOUT THE 2022 BMW 430I CONVERTIBLE
The 2022 BMW 430i Convertible is the four-cylinder soft-top version of the second-generation 4 Series (G23). It uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder rated at 255 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm), driving the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic. An all-wheel-drive 430i xDrive Convertible was also offered.
Second year of a new roof
The G23 went on sale for the 2021 model year and made a significant change from its predecessor: the earlier F33 4 Series Convertible used a folding metal hardtop, while the G23 switched to a lighter fabric roof. That frees up boot space and lowers the centre of gravity. The 2022 car continued with little change after its launch season.
What it is like
The roof opens and closes electrically and can be operated at low speeds. There are four seats, with the rear suited to occasional use. The four-cylinder offers brisk performance and good economy, while the eight-speed automatic shifts smoothly. Like the coupe, it wears the large vertical kidney grille that divided opinion when the generation arrived.
Buying one today
Check that the roof mechanism operates without hesitation and that the seals keep water out. The B46/B48 four-cylinder engine family has a generally good record, with coolant leaks and oil filter housing gasket seepage the most commonly reported issues.
