ABOUT THE 2020 BMW 440I XDRIVE COUPE
The 2020 BMW 440i xDrive Coupe is the all-wheel-drive, six-cylinder version of the first-generation 4 Series coupe (F32). It uses BMW’s B58 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six, rated at 320 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque, sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission and xDrive.
The final year of the F32
The 4 Series coupe was introduced for the 2014 model year as the two-door successor to the E92 3 Series coupe, and the 440i name replaced the 435i for 2017 when the B58 engine arrived. A mid-life update followed for 2018 with LED lighting and suspension revisions. The 2020 model year was the last for this generation: the second-generation G22 coupe, with its much larger kidney grille, took over for 2021. That makes the 2020 car the final 4 Series coupe with the more traditional front-end design.
What it is like
The B58 is one of BMW’s smoothest and most responsive modern sixes, and in the 440i it gives strong performance across the rev range. xDrive adds year-round traction while retaining a rear-biased feel. The coupe seats four, with a rear bench that suits adults on shorter journeys, and the boot is a practical size for a two-door car.
Buying one today
The B58 has a generally good reputation. Commonly reported issues include coolant leaks from the expansion tank or pipes and oil leaks from the oil filter housing gasket on higher-mileage cars. Check that the electronics, including the iDrive system and driver assistance sensors, work correctly.
