ABOUT THE 2019 BMW 430I XDRIVE GRAN COUPE
The 2019 BMW 430i xDrive Gran Coupe is the four-door, liftback version of the 4 Series, known internally as the F36. It combines a coupe-like roofline with four side doors and a large hatchback-style tailgate. Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder making 248 hp and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm), sent to all four wheels through BMW’s xDrive system and an eight-speed automatic.
A practical alternative to the 3 Series
The Gran Coupe shared its platform with the F30 3 Series sedan but offered a lower, sleeker profile. Because the tailgate opens with the rear window, the luggage area is easier to load than a sedan’s boot, and the rear seats fold for long items. Rear headroom is slightly tighter than in the 3 Series because of the sloping roof.
2019 in context
The 2019 model year continued the updates from the 2018 facelift, such as LED lights and an improved interior. Its successor, the larger G26 4 Series Gran Coupe, arrived for the 2022 model year.
Buying one today
Look for a full service record and check for oil or coolant leaks. Inspect the tailgate struts and the electrically operated tailgate where fitted. Run-flat tyres were common and can make replacement costly. xDrive cars should have the transfer case serviced or checked for any shudder or noise.
Rivals
The closest rivals were the Audi A5 Sportback, which uses a similar liftback layout, and the Kia Stinger 2.0T.
