ABOUT THE 2018 BMW M760I XDRIVE
The 2018 BMW M760i xDrive is the flagship of the G12 7 Series range, a long-wheelbase luxury sedan with a 6.6-litre twin-turbocharged V12. In US specification the engine produces 601 hp and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm), driving all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic. BMW quoted 0–60 mph in 3.6 seconds. It was built in Dingolfing, Germany.
An M Performance V12
Introduced for the 2017 model year, the M760i was the first 7 Series to wear an M Performance badge. It replaced the 760Li and was the most powerful 7 Series of its time. The xDrive system was tuned with a rear bias, and the car gained a sport exhaust, larger brakes and unique styling details, including Cerium Grey trim and V12 badging.
What it is like
The V12 delivers effortless, near-silent acceleration, and the standard air suspension keeps the car comfortable despite its pace. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph as standard. The 3,210 mm wheelbase gives limousine-like rear legroom, and the cabin includes most of the 7 Series’ technology as standard.
Buying one today
The N74 V12 is complex and has a reputation for costly repairs. Commonly reported issues include ignition coils, fuel injectors and oil leaks, and any work on the engine bay is labour-intensive. The air suspension and many electronic systems also need checking. A full service history from a BMW specialist is strongly advised and fuel consumption is very heavy.
Rivals
Its competitors were the Mercedes-AMG S 63 and S 65 sedans and, at the very top of the market, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class.
