ABOUT THE 2011 BMW 335IS COUPE
The 2011 BMW 335is Coupe is a higher-performance version of the fifth-generation 3 Series coupe (E92), introduced for the 2011 model year. It uses the twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre N54 inline-six, uprated to 320 hp and 332 lb-ft, with a temporary overboost function that briefly raises torque further under hard acceleration. It drives the rear wheels. This entry covers the version with the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission; a six-speed manual was also offered.
Bridging the gap to the M3
The 335is arrived alongside the facelifted E92 coupe for 2011. That year the regular 335i switched to the single-turbo N55 engine, but the 335is kept the twin-turbo N54 with more boost and an extra radiator for improved cooling. It also gained the M Sport aerodynamic body kit, sport seats and unique wheels, positioning it between the 335i and the V8-powered M3. The 335is was also offered as a convertible.
Practicality
Like other E92 coupes it seats four, with a usable boot and rear seats adequate for adults on shorter trips. Long, heavy doors are the main everyday compromise.

The N54’s weak points are well documented: high-pressure fuel pump failures, leaking injectors, turbocharger wastegate rattle, electric water pump failure and oil leaks from the valve cover and oil filter housing. Many 335is cars have been modified with engine tunes, so check service history and whether the car is still standard.

Rivals in 2011 included the Audi S5, the Infiniti G37 Coupe and the Cadillac CTS Coupe.
