ABOUT THE 2007 BMW X5 3.0SI
The 2007 BMW X5 3.0si is the six-cylinder version of the second-generation X5 (E70), a mid-size luxury SUV. It uses the 3.0-litre N52 inline-six producing 260 hp and 225 lb-ft, with xDrive all-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic gearbox. A 4.8i V8 sat above it in the range.
An all-new X5
2007 was the launch year of the E70, which replaced the original E53. The new model grew noticeably in length and width, gained an optional third-row seat for the first time, and adopted the latest iDrive. Like every X5, it was built at BMW’s Spartanburg plant in South Carolina. Options included Active Steering, Adaptive Drive with active anti-roll control, and a panoramic glass roof.
Practicality
The bigger body brought a larger cargo area and more rear legroom. The optional third row is best suited to children, but it gives the X5 extra flexibility. Run-flat tyres were standard, so there is no spare wheel.
Engine and driving
The 3.0si is the more economical choice in the launch range. It feels adequate rather than fast in a vehicle of this weight, but is smooth and responsive. The X5 remained one of the better-handling SUVs of its time.

Commonly reported issues include N52 oil leaks (valve cover and oil filter housing gaskets), electric water pump and thermostat failures, and worn front control arm bushings. Check iDrive, the electrics and, where fitted, the panoramic roof drains.
Rivals
The X5 faced the Mercedes-Benz ML350, Audi Q7, Volvo XC90, Lexus RX 350 and Range Rover Sport.
