ABOUT THE 2021 BENTLEY CONTINENTAL GT CONVERTIBLE
The 2021 Bentley Continental GT Convertible is the open-top version of the third-generation Continental GT, which arrived in 2018 on Volkswagen Group’s MSB platform. This entry covers the V8 model, with a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged engine producing 542 hp and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm). It drives all four wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The V8 Convertible
The third-generation Convertible launched with the W12, and the V8 version followed shortly afterwards. By 2021 the V8 had become a popular choice: it is lighter over the front axle than the W12 and has a more vocal exhaust note, while still offering very strong performance. Bentley quoted a top speed of 198 mph for the V8 Convertible. During 2021 Bentley also revealed the flagship W12-powered GT Speed Convertible, which would sit above it.
Roof and cabin
The multi-layer fabric roof opens or closes in about 19 seconds and can be operated on the move at low speeds. Four seats are fitted, though the rear pair are best for children or short trips, and an optional neck warmer system helps extend top-down driving into cooler weather. The rotating dashboard display, which can switch between a touchscreen, analogue dials or a plain veneer panel, was available on this generation.
Buying one today
Buyers should check the roof mechanism and seals, look for warning lights relating to the air suspension or electronics, and confirm that software updates have been applied. Large wheels and tyres make consumables expensive.
Rivals
Rivals included the Rolls-Royce Dawn, Aston Martin DB11 Volante, Mercedes-AMG S 63 Cabriolet and Ferrari Portofino.
